"The Socialist Party executive committee held its first meeting after the summer vacation on Tuesday afternoon but made no final decisions on any questions discussed.Finance Minister János Veres was unable to attend, as he could not make it to the party headquarters on Vérmező utca in time due to heavy traffic.
Party chairman Ferenc Gyurcsány gave an analysis of the past few months and drew up a short timetable for the autumn.
The Socialists are reportedly satisfied with their performance, as opinion polls show that their popularity did not decline in the past few months. Their popularity did not rise significantly either, despite favourable political events such as a private speech by Fidesz chairman Viktor Orbán leaked in May.
Gyurcsány will present details of a strategy to determine the political timetable for the next two years to Socialist MPs and the public early next week.
No decision was reached on who should conduct negotiations with the Free Democrats nor at what level."
