Tokaj - Off The Beaten Track

Tokaj - Off The Beaten Track
"We all love Tokaj. We are extremely proud of it, and firmly believe that its wines are among the best in the world. At the same time, we are rightly incensed at the rest of world’s offhand attitude towards Tokaj. Haven’t they any idea of how great a wine Tokaji really is?

Why even our fellow Hungarians seem unaware of the treasure they are harbouring in their midst. To turn this situation around, two wine merchants, Zwack Izabella Borválogatás and Bortársaság joined forces with 41 restaurants and decided to shed new light on those aspects of Tokaj which have been hidden under a bushel until today.

It is time for wine merchants and the world of gastronomy to contribute to the enormous efforts that the wineries, namely Disznókő, Dobogó, Degenfeld, Szepsy and Oremus, have made over the last 15 years! We believe that wine merchants and restaurants also have a significant role to play in making Tokaj as successful as it is destined to be.

Therefore, between 11 October and 31 December 2007 we invite everybody for a walk... off the beaten track. 41 restaurants will offer wines from these Tokaji wineries, even just by a glass, and those who are curious enough to keep us company will also find inviting and informative wine lists and different menus designed exclusively for Tokaj wines.

And at the end of that track we hope that Tokaj and its wines will have become a part of us all- and our daily life."
