Treatment Of Detained Britons Comes Under Scrutiny
"Hungarian authorities misled a London court in order to win its consent for the extradition of two British suspects, UK newspaper The Observer wrote on Sunday.

The two, businessmen Michael Turner and Jason McGoldrick, had operated a time-share company in Hungary which went bank-rupt six years ago. They are suspected of de-frauding 134 clients of a total of £18,000. MEP Lord Dartmouth recently visited Hungary to express concern as the two are imprisoned amid poor conditions.

The two Britons flew to Budapest voluntarily on November 2, expecting to be heard at a trial, but instead were handcuffed and thrown into jail. Police have questioned them only once in more than 80 days of captivity.

Their lawyers will request at a February 5 remand hearing that the suspects be placed under house arrest.

Prosecutors office spokeswoman Gabri-ella Skoda said Hungarian law is in full harmony with EU recommendations regarding the European arrest warrant."
