Gas Chaos in Hungary: Tesco & Auchan Making Plans, Westend Acts

Gas Chaos in Hungary: Tesco & Auchan Making Plans, Westend Acts
Tesco Hungary are already making plans how to cut consumption if ordered to do so, Auchan is getting ready for possible extraordinary measures. "Budapest Westend City Center is to turn down its heating and restrict hot water usage to cut gas consumption to one third, the operators of the giant Budapest mall said yesterday.

General managers Péter Posch said the shopping mall falls into the third category of natural gas consumers, the consumption of which is likely to be limited as of today, as gas transmission company FGSZ has already informed them.

Posch said the plaza will lower its hourly consumption to 40-50 cubic metres from 140-150 cm as of midnight today. First they will turn off hot water in public rest rooms, while in staff lavatories electric boilers will continue to provide hot water.

The next step will be to turn down heating to 26 degrees Celsius to 20 and close some entrances.

Mónika Hackl, spokeswoman for Tesco Hungary told local newswire MTI that they are already making plans how to cut consumption if ordered to do so. Tesco is drawing up an action plan which smaller units and in what order should be closed first.

Katalin Gillemot, spokeswoman for Auchan told MTI their units are unable to switch to alternative heating, adding that they are already making plans for possible extraordinary measures."
