'Valley of Arts' Festival, Kapolcs, Until 2 AugustFounded by composer István Márta 25 years ago, the highly successful arts and crafts festival (named “Művészetek Völgye” in Hungarian) is a folklore venue spreading out over seven villages in the picturesque countryside north of Lake Balaton in western Hungary. Organisers promise an especially broad array of programmes this year to mark the twenty-fifth anniversary of the festival, which was attended by some 140 000 people last year. more »

13th Century Mikveh Opens To Visitors In BudapestA Jewish ritual bath or mikveh built in the 13th century and excavated eight years ago will open to visitors in the Buda Castle district from August. The small mikveh in the western tunnels can be visited during guided underground tours every Monday, the asset manager said. The shallow bath which was carved in stone during the middle ages is supplied by underground water and has remained intact in one of the oldest parts of the castle district. more »
