Xpat Community Ezine / Thursday 19 January 2017
Dear Member, first for your interest is a quick reminder about our networking event tomorrow: Invitation: 'Merry New Year' Celebration, Friday 20 January

70+ are already registered and a few places are still available for expats and cosmopolitan locals to reconnect with friends - and make new ones - at this relaxed social networking event.

The focus is on 'legendary Hungarian hospitality', there'll be authentic folklore dancers; live Gypsy music; and snacks courtesy of the historic venue Mátyás Pince.

Back by popular demand are 'Taste & Play' games, and as with all our Xpat Wine Club events you get unlimited tastes of 20 wines, and more...

Plus we're offering a traditional drop of pálinka... So you see it all promises to be an entertaining evening, full of top quality refreshments and classic Hungarian charm.

We hope you come along to enjoy the company of the international community, and make it a merry start to 2017.

Now here's hoping you like what's included for you below.
Yours sincerely with kind regards, Stephen@XpatLoop.com

Hungarians make jokes about Scots being a bit thrifty, but the team at The Caledonia might make them reconsider... With temperatures plummeting to nearly -20°C, local staff and expat customers of this Scottish pub have been donating ingredients and time to make hundreds of litres of soup for the homeless in Budapest. more »

Exhibition On Hungary’s Last King Opens In National Museum
Exhibition On Hungary’s Last King Opens In National MuseumAn exhibition commemorating the centenary of the coronation of Charles IV, the last king of Hungary, was opened in Budapest’s National Museum. The last Hungarian king was a “tragic hero” who searched for peace in a situation in which a victory for his allies would have posed at least as big a threat to the people of the Austro-Hungarian Empire as a victory for the Entente powers would have done, Zoltán Balog, the human resources minister, said at the opening. more »

Introducing Mátyás Pince, One Of The Oldest Restaurants In Budapest
Introducing Mátyás Pince, One Of The Oldest Restaurants In Budapest"Due to its style, the Mátyás Pince Restaurant still attracts a lot of foreign tourists, but we would very much like to attract more Hungarian and expat guests too," management told XpatLoop. In the eyes of many, the Mátyás Pince Restaurant is a precious piece of the past. "Our compatriots living abroad come back for nostalgia, and families travel from the countryside for a Sunday lunch because it was once their grandma’s favourite place". However, the place also offers a memourable experience to younger people, and so naturally the venue is keen to attract today’s generation to discover it for themselves. more »
