Thousands of people marched across central Budapest on Saturday afternoon to call for acceptance and identical rights for Hungary’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) community. The procession saw the crowd, comprised mostly of young people with rainbow flags, coloured balloons and billboards, march from opposite the Opera House on Adrássy út to the Tabán park area in Buda. ...

This Castle Festival in Budapest is a feast of classical, swing, klezmer and traditional Hungarian gypsy music. The truely beautiful courtyard of the Vajdahunyad Castle provides a romantic background for this annual event. Performances this year are scheduled for Mondays and Thursdays from 9 Juy onwards, starting each time at 8:30pm.

The season’s last Grandhouse luncheon on June 16 hosted Dame Jane Goodall of chimpanzee fame before a blockbuster rapt audience of 85 guests, a roster of ambassadors among them, this time not as usual at the Academy of Science but at Kogart House gallery restaurant along the World Heritage listed Andrássy út.

The 22nd Budapest International Book Festival is to open with around 400 events on Thursday at Budapest’s Millenáris Park. The book fair’s star guest this year will be American writer Jonathan Franzen, whose self-biographical novel Discomfort Zone will be introduced to the public on Saturday. During the festival’s four days, Hungary will host the world’s largest book store.
