The General Assembly of the Budapest Philharmonic Society - the orchestra of the Hungarian State Opera - elected internationally acclaimed conductor Pinchas Steinberg Chief Conductor and President of the orchestra on 5 February 2013. Steinberg will take over in February 2014.

The Kúria ruled on Monday that a person had lost his job as a result of unlawful discrimination because of his sexual orientation, the first such ruling in Hungary, Népszava reports. The plaintiff, a vocational secondary school teacher in Cegléd, said he will not give his name as he fears he may not find a job elsewhere.
