Hungary’s Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music will host an international competition and festival in September 2017 to mark the 135th birth anniversary of Béla Bartók. More than half of Hungarian households finance the start of the school year using credit, an opposition Socialist politician Ildikó Borbely Bangó told a news conference. The Budapest general assembly voted to cut funding for the internationally celebrated Budapest Festival Orchestra from last year’s 260 million forints (EUR 840,000) to 60 million forints. Budapest Deputy Mayor Alexandra Szalay- Bobrovniczky said in the debate on the orchestra’s funding that it receives a significant amount of state support alongside the money it gets from the city.
