The harrowing Holocaust drama “Son of Saul,” offering unflinching depictions of the gas chambers of Auschwitz, claimed the runner-up Grand Prize at the Cannes Film Festival on Sunday. The co-ruling Christian Democrats do not support the idea of restoring the death penalty in Hungary, Bence Rétvári, the party’s deputy leader, said. The Christian Democrats welcomed that the criminal code had been made stricter over the past five years, including the introduction of the “three strikes” law and would support further tightening, he said.
