Europe’s Oldest River Battleship Inaugurated As Museum At Parliament Pier

The Lajta monitor, the sole remaining, fully restored river warship of the Austro-Hungarian Navy, is now a floating museum on the Danube in front of Parliament. The river monitor was launched in 1871, and besides serving throughout the First World War, it played a part in the toppling of the short-lived Communist regime of Béla Kun in 1919.

The annual Hungarian Film Festival (Filmszemle) has been cancelled again this year due to lack of funding. Last year, the entire event had been fully cancelled for the same reason after the previous year’s event had been organised with very limited funding and without a competition.

The Ministry of Human Resources launched a HUF 100 million tender for the digitalisation of art cinemas in Hungary in 2013, thanks to which a further ten institutions have been able to switch to digital projection this year, Minister of State for Culture Mr János Halász announced in Nyíregyháza, on 4 December 2013.
