- 29 Aug 2012 9:04 AM
- getting around
I have been cycling up to Romai Part and Szentendre for years, and have always loved the four water and coal-clock towers at the old gas works. Luckily they have managed to survive (so far) the reconstruction of the old chemical works as an industrial park. In 1908 a municipal decision was made to replace several obsolete gas factories with a single new facility.
Xpat Opinion: A Few Days In Balatonakarattya

By Treehugger Dan: My weekend plans getting cancelled turned out for the best, as Chris and Nora invited me down to Balaton for a couple days. The family summer cottage has a fantastic view of Balaton. Built in 1969 before Markovecz was well-known, the layout is unusual in its family-centered design, and nothing at all like his later environmental designs incorporating living trees into the ...

Last Friday a friend and I went cycling at night to Romai part. I normally go early in the morning, but it was really lovely at night. We got a bit re-routed through the Sziget Festival crowds around the Filatorigat HEV stop (which gets its name from an 18th century threat factory at the location), but it was not a real problem.

Laliba's langos is the best at Balaton, and second best in Hungary only to the Hunyadi ter langos. We are now recognised as regulars and get special service, not having to wait in ...

Lake Balaton is the largest and one of the shallowest lakes in Europe. It’s a favorite holiday destination with many resort areas to choose from, although it seems like most people have one beloved ...

Chris, Nora and Gabi came down to the house this weekend. It was chill-out time for them, while I also had to try to deal with the large snake I almost stepped on three weeks ago in the stables. In the morning I whipped up a batch of my famous blueberry pancakes. A friendly expert from Aggtelek National Park came around noon and looked for signs, but did not find anything.

"Hungary’s been getting some bad press lately. That doesn’t mean it’s not still a nice place to live. Although I’m tempted to say one of the coolest things to do in Budapest is to take to the streets and attend a big, peaceful protest, let’s get away from the politics and look at 10 reasons Budapest is cool, in my opinion. Here are two for today…
