Chain-Smoking On The Rise In Hungary

The number of chain-smokers in Hungary has increased, reports Hungarian newspaper Magyar Nemzet. According to the data provided by the Central Statistical Office, while the number of cigarette smokers decreased from 31 percent in 2009 to 29 percent in 2014, the number of chain-smokers increased in 2014 to 28 percent of all smokers from 27 percent in 2009.

The free breast cancer “screening night” held on 25 April was a success, Minister of State for Health Miklós Szócska said at a press conference in Budapest on Wednesday. He said that of the 6,250 women aged 45-65, 1,837 showed up at the screening and another 9,000 also took various other tests.

The Hungarian Civil Liberties Union (TASZ) said on Thursday that it would ask the health state secretary’s office why abortion pills are not available in Hungary despite having passed safety tests by the National Institute for Quality and Organisational Development in Healthcare and Medicines (GYEMSZI).
