On this National Holiday, also known locally as 'the day of the dead' (Halottak Napja), all main shops and public offices are closed. Traditionally, instead of celebrating 'Halloween', Hungarians head to the cemeteries for All Soul's Day - also known as All Hallows Tide, All-Hallomas, or All Hallows' Day.

For achieving this, the German-language Thomas Mann Lions Club and the English-language All Nations Lions Club, both located in Budapest, combine their social and cultural activities and will merge to “The Thomas Mann All Nations Lions Club”.

Hungary needs to make a “turnaround” and focus its attention on environmental issues and efforts to “ensure opportunities for a decent life”, Budapest Mayor Gergely Karácsony said on Thursday, marking Earth Day, adding that those efforts should come “before the interests of the financial markets”.

Back in March as the pandemic was unfolding, Hungarian chef Márton Keve came up with the concept of “Etesd a dokit!” to help local health care workers eat decent meals during the Covid-19 crisis.
