St. Stephen's Day Celebrations In Budapest, 20 August

This year, 20 August celebrations will be held under the slogan “The country – together as one”. A special feature of this year’s events is that the series of programmes Nagyon Balaton (Very Balaton!) will include colourful family events, concerts and fireworks in several towns along the shores of Lake Balaton to commemorate the foundation of the Hungarian State.

Visitors are offered a variety of folk dance shows and concerts on Clark Ádám Square. Stilts parade, inauguration of Hungary’s birthday cake, traditional dancers, folk singers, and the performance of the popular TV production, School of Singing will offer real family entertainment.

Formed in London in 1987, the Balanescu Quartet ranks as one of the world’s leading string quartets. Due to the severe weather conditions Interior Ministry suggested to cancel all outdoor events on 15 March. The indoor celebrations are not affected.

Tango music played on 2 pianos by the Albanian concert pianist Almira Emiri & the Greek concert pianist Aris Feslikidis. "The way the two pianists change each other and split to perform with the quartet, will be the surprise of the event," we're reliably informed.
