'North African Music', National Concert Hall, 4 March
"The real star of this evening will be the music of Tunisia and Morocco, at least in part, because both groups have built upon traditions looking to Western culture. Dar Gnawa, who preserve the ancient gnawa music (the music of Sub-Saharan Africa, a style mixing Berber and Arab music), are playing with one of the greats of world jazz, tenor saxophonist Archie Shep, who first expressed an interest in African – then Algerian – music in the sixties.

Anouar Brahem, who was born in Tunisia, is a supreme exponent of the Arabic lute, and brings an international brand which through remarkable changes of instruments, present the uniquely individual sonority of music with roots in North Africa.
