Fireworks Victims In Budapest Paid Ft 128 Million
The government has reached out-of-court settlements to a total value of over Ft 128 million with victims of the storm that struck the August 20 fireworks display in 2006, Public Administration and Justice state secretary Róbert Répássy told reporters.

The amount equals 60% of all compensation claims, as agreements have been struck in 37 of the 63 compensation claims.

Negotiations on other claims will resume next week and it is hoped that agreements can be reached in September, Répássy said.

Five people were killed and many injured when the sudden storm struck as tens of thousands watched the fireworks along the Danube in Budapest.

Fidesz MP Gergely Gulyás said that Ft 42 million in compensation have been paid to 23 family members of the five fatalities."
