Dalai Lama Calls For Cooperation And Dialogue In Budapest
Not everybody can be Christian, Muslim or Buddhist; the major philosophical religions should find the common ground on which they can help the people in their query for happiness, said His Holiness, the 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso on Saturday in Budapest, where he spoke in front of more than 10,000 people.

The audience from all around the world greeted the exiled leader of the Tibetan people with great expectations on Saturday at the full-house event at the László Papp Sport Arena.

The Dalai Lama recalled his first visit to Budapest in 1979 when he was on a roundtrip from Mongolia to Italy, and he referred to the contrast he observed between the communist and the “free” world.

After his short introduction, he emphasized the universal message different world-religions have about love, tolerance and forgiveness and the common ground they should reach in order to help individuals find their internal harmony. He further called for cooperation and dialogue between religions and stressed the importance of their harmonious cohabitation in the world.

The Dalai Lama was made an honorary citizen of Budapest by Mayor Gábor Demszky. The Lama in his acceptance speech underlined his hope that the 21st century would be the century of world-peace and dialogue.
