Xpat Review: Notting Hill Carnival In Budapest
As summer finally drew to a close, the British Chamber of Commerce in Hungary joined the Corinthia Hotel Budapest in a truly London-style event – the Notting Hill Carnival. On Thursday night over 130 guests shared their holiday memories in the pleasant surroundings of the hotel. After a warm welcome from Mr. Gergely Mikola, BCCH Chairman and Mr. Adrian Ellis, General Manager of the hotel, a live band and an authentic conga player were on hand to get the guests on their dancing feet.

Delicious treats including Twinings tea, Lavazza coffee, cocktails made with spirits from Diageo and mouth-watering dishes from the Corinthia such as Panko pork cutlet, cold salads, salmon, cod, jambalaya and exotic red snapper in banana leaves were served. For dessert, the more sweet-toothed could slice their way through banana flambé or just a scoop of fruit salad.

Thanks to Hotel AV Services, the 1999 cinema hit Notting Hill was screened throughout the evening along with images of the Notting Hill area and the Carnival; and amazing gowns and dresses by Hungarian fashion designers Anikó Németh / Manier and Brigitta Sziráczky were on display. Although the weather had left us longing for a few more days of summer, the evening proved that we will still have many great BCCH events to look forward to in the coming months.

“The BCCH has set truly high standards with its season opening Notting Hill Carnival. It was great to meet so many people. The live music was also excellent. I enjoyed it so much, that I had to apologise to a friend to make a small break within a conversation to be able to listen with both ears to „Take The A Train”.” - Dr. Zoltán Csedő, General Manager, Innotica Group

“The Notting Hill theme was chosen as the actual Notting Hill Carnival is held at the end of August in the UK and the timing fitted in well for the first welcome back cocktail event for the BCCH, following the summer holidays.

The theme revolved around the famous film and the carnival, with Caribbean dishes being presented and music depicting this theme. Guests enjoyed the event and had a chance to sample the food, festival cocktails and the music - some even managed a Caribbean dance!
A great start to the new season of BCCH events in the city " – Mr. Adrian Ellis, General Manager, Corinthia Hotel Budapest

“Once again the British Chamber brings a welcome slice of Blighty to Budapest with their welcome back from summer Notting Hill party. Everyone was very pleased with the excellent food and hot Caribbean band.” – Mr. Liam Crow
