Festival Of Lights From India, Millenáris Budapest, 3 November
"Dipavali, also called Divali is one of the most popular festivals in India. It heralds the victory of light over darkness, of gods over demons, of the blessings of the departed souls as ‘good luck’ over ‘trouble’.

Not only the endless rows of little lamps that shine brightly and the brilliant fire-works indicate a change for the better: new clothes, especially the colorful saris for the ladies, and the night-long chance-games like ‘chaupar’ or ‘chokkattan’ mark the festivities.

The primal players of this Game of Dice are the gods Shiva and Parvati. They play and play and play as part of their Lila ‘play of love’. We will meet them in this dance concert by Bittner Meenakshi Dora and Saskia Kersenboom. Shiva and Parvati quarrel, make up, marry and continue to long for each other as eternal lovers.

The classical dances of South India, Bharata Natyam and Dasi Attam provide the poetry, and choreography for this program.

Music concert: Zoltan Lantos /violin/ and Peter Szalai /tabla/ Duo

Zoltán Lantos’ and Péter Szalai’s improvisation- sometimes floating sometimes vibrating - is based on classical Indian music Raga and Tala. They have both spent years in India learning to play traditional Indian music. Besides, they also use elements of free jazz as well as electronics.
