Fidesz To Change Central Bank Act In Hungary
"The government intends to amend the Central Bank Act, Hungarian media sources reported. Members of the monetary council will be elected by Parliament’s economic committee, Economy Minister Gyorgy Matolcsy announced.

Under the current regulation, two delegates are nominated by the National Bank (MNB) and two by the prime minister.

With the new rule, Fidesz would be able to nominate all four members early next year to replace outgoing MNB council members, Tamas Banfi, Peter Bihari, Csaba Csaki and Judit Nemenyi, whose six-year mandates expire in March. All new members have to be officially appointed by the head of state.

The government has already informed European Central Bank president Jean-Claude Trichet on the planned changes.

Fidesz’s possible nominees, according to a report by website Index, are former Phare funds minister Imre Boros; Istvan Torocskei, a businessman with close ties to Fidesz; and economist Laszlo Bogar. The mandate of governor Andras Simor and of his two deputies Julia Kiraly and Ferenc Karvalits run until 2013."
