"Sweden and Hungary commemorates Raul Wallenbergs centenary in 2012. The Swedish Institute is producing an exhibition about the life and deeds of Raoul Wallenberg that will go on an international tour in 2012 in remembrance of his birth 100 years ago.

The tour begins with the inauguration in the Hungarian National Museum on 17 january, the day in 1945 when Raoul Wallenberg was captured by the Soviets. After that it will be shown in Moscow, Berlin, Tel Aviv, Washington DC, New York and Ottawa/Toronto.

Raoul Wallenberg is one of the most wellknown and admired Swedes in the world. In his capacity as first secretary at the Swedish Legation in Budapest, he led the operation to rescue Jews from the Holocaust. Int he space of a few months-from July, 1944, to January, 1945 – he managed to save tens of thousands of Jews.

The exhibition includes Raoul Wallenberg's childhood and upbringing and his remarkable acts to save Jews in Budapest during the end of Second World War. The third and final section shows survivors, people who were saved by Wallenberg, and their relatives.
