IMF And EU May Oppose New Hungarian State-Run Mobile Phone Operator
There is a possibility that the question of the fourth mobile operator, state-owned MPVI Mobile, may come up in loan talks with the EU and the IMF, Magyar Nemzet writes, citing an anonymous government source. Economic considerations would serve as a “pretext” for raising the issue, the source said, adding that foreign-owned mobile operators might seek help from the EU in a bid to eliminate competition.

“Let’s not forget the telecoms tax, where incumbent mobile operators turned to the European Court of Justice,” the source remarked.
