Xpat Opinion: Spectacular Renewal Ahead For Budapest's Public Transport
Budapest has just accepted the budget to replace 37 yellow trams and 24 red electric trolley buses using EU grants and government funding through the years 2014 and 2015. Most of the current vehicles are 1967 and 1978 models. Furthermore, 150 brand new air-conditioned Mercedes buses will appear on the streets next May. Blue buses provide 40% of the public transport capacity of Budapest; their average age is 18 years. For now here's a video of the spectacular Christmas tram in Budapest.

The underground rails have been completed on the entire length (20 km) of the new green Metro 4 line, between the train stations Kelenfoldi in Buda and Keleti in Pest, due to open in Q2 2014. The spectacular improvement of the public transport system in the capital will wipe out memories of the Communist past and have a profound effect on property values everywhere.
