Hungarian Models At The New York Fashion Week
Hungarian fashion models have been a much sought-after and necessary ingredient for the fashion industry for some years now. Hardly a week passes without a new fashion campaign or editorial popping up using one of Hungary’s leading exports: models.

Just recently, the girls turned up at the Mercedes-Benz Fall/Winter 2013 Fashion Week in New York City making an appearance in more than two dozen different shows, including Marc Jacobs, Ruffian, Calvin Klein, Mara Hoffman, Donna Karan, and Proenza Schouler.

As for the boys, newcomer Kristof Pituk was exclusively corned by the New York fashion designer Marc Jacobs for the Marc brand label.

The women dominating the catwalks were: Reka Nagy (exclusive for Givenchy in Paris last year); Anita Hodosi (recently featuring in ads for Nike) and Kate Kondas, the opening and closing face for Jean Paul Gaultier at the Fall/Winter 2012 show.

One Hungarian girl who can pride herself on having appeared on the most catwalks is Vanessa Axente who may very well be the next big thing. Among the Hungarian models she is this for sure, but now also in the wider sense of the meaning. Snapped up for several big campaigns and shows by Marc Jacobs, this 17-year-old from Nagylengyel also made an appearance in 9 additional shows.

It has not been a year since Vanessa first stepped out onto the catwalk as an exclusive for Prada in Milan thereby marking her entrance into the elite. Attaining the all-important age of 16, thereby giving the green light to the fashion capitals, her career accelerated with incredible speed. This has resulted in three Vogue Italia covers in less than 12 months, the latest appearance in the upcoming March issue.

Currently she features in the Spring/Summer campaign of Prada; has been photographed by Steven Meisel, and has made regular appearances at fashion weeks over the course of the past year. Following the Paris Haute Couture in January where she and 8 Hungarian peers - including Sophie Srej and Kinga Rajzak – paced the catwalks in New York, Vanessa was contracted to appear at shows for brands like Alexander Wang, Belstaff, Tommy Hilfiger, Victoria Beckham and Narciso Rodriguez. Now she is set to fly for her European dates to continue her rapid rise.

She recently attained a prominent 25th place on models.com’s Top 50 Models list (Eniko Mihalik ranks #40, and Barbara Palvin #23 among the Money Girls) proof that the top is not far away!

As far as her home country is concerned, she has been nominated for a Glamour Women of the Year award as Model of the Year. The ceremony takes place on March 21st in Budapest.

Keep an eye on these girls as they continue to build a good reputation for Hungary and stride the catwalks of the European fashion weeks, starting in London on February 15th.
