Football Hooligans Attack Police In Hungary
Újpest football supporters attacked police officers in the Fourth District Sunday afternoon ahead of a match against arch-rivals Ferencváros (FTC). The trouble began when police detained a man for using an illegal firecracker.

Budapest Police spokeswoman Viktória Kovács said 10-15 people attacked a 200-strong phalanx of police officers, who restored order in minutes.

Proceedings have begun against a 34-year-old fan for the misdemeanour of abuse of pyrotechnics.

Meanwhile FTC fans greeted the Újpest supporters with stones, bottles and firecrackers at a metro station in the Ninth District.

Police fired tear gas at the mob and several squads of police officers dispersed the disorderly fans.
