New Venue At Sziget Festival In Budapest: Cirque Du Sziget
Ladies and Gentleman! A marvelous and brand new venue is enriching the colorful programs of Sziget Festival this year. The Cirque du Sziget will host breath-taking “new-circus” productions and also some impressive shows of young Hungarian acrobats, put together exclusively for the event. Because Sziget is so much more than just a music festival!

Among the rich programs of Sziget Festival, this year a brand new and very spectacular venue is born. Fruzsina Szép, Program Director of Sziget, said: “The audience of Sziget could enjoy many circus productions in the previous years. Because of the huge success we decided to dedicate an own location for this popular art form. We would like to have everything that is circus every day at one location.”

The idea was born last year, at the 20th Sziget, where a group of young Hungarian acrobats at the Magic Mirror tent have formed the production called Recirquel, truly amazing the audience.

The Cirque du Sziget is using the visuals and atmosphere of a travelling circus from the 1890s and the performances will showcase programs from the contemporary circus genre, originally known as nouveau cirque, exclusively made for Sziget.

There will be interactive circus programs in the afternoons, where acrobats and stunt-oriented artists and the audience can perform together. One can try out some circus instruments, while opening up our eyes to brilliant productions. The crowd can see, in the late-afternoons, how the young graduating acrobats touch the sky with their explosive energy, while questioning physical boundaries.

They will be accompanied by young singers and DJs, creating an unbelievable adventure together. In the evenings Recirquel will be seen once again. They are coming with a production spiced up with magic and theatre by breath-taking acrobats.

Days will end with the Swing & Circus at the new location, performing swing, electro-swing, dance and circus all together. While dancing, we should not be surprised if a half-naked trapeze artist flies above us…

Stay tuned in the upcoming weeks as well, as there are more names and productions to come for the 2013 Sziget!
