Tarlós Defends Margaret Island Budapest Move
Revenue from Margaret Island should go to the city if the 13th District spends the money on “unknown projects,” Budapest mayor István Tarlós told reporters on Wednesday. He announced last week that the city will take the island park from the 13th District and administrate it directly.

The capital wants to possess its own property, Tarlós said by way of justification.

The district collects Ft 130 million every year from a “building tax” but it does not spend it on development projects, Tarlós said.

He dismissed accusations by the district architect that the city plans to sell portions of the island as “political hysteria-mongering”.
