Xpat Opinion: Fantastique Sunday Brunch At Le Meridien Budapest
Budapest has a host of hotels offering brunch, and we often find ourselves returning to ones we know and trust. However, last weekend I decided to take my wife and two young daughters to try Le Meridien on Erzebet Ter, and we had a very pleasant afternoon.

After being courteously greeted in the bright Atrium of 'Le Bourbon Restaurant' we decided to sit beneath the stunning stained glass dome. We were then provided with a baby chair, water and, of course, a sparkling wine.

A pleasant trio played Jazz as we perused the offerings and chose our first dishes. To my delight there was a large emphasis on fish. From three different types of Salmon, Mackerel and even Trout on the cold platter, to warm dishes of Butter fish and a beautiful Squid in tomato and coriander sauce.

The range of hot platters was maybe not quite as extensive as other brunches I have tried but they were all very high quality, also included was a succulent pork roulade, a beautiful salmon quiche, plus there was a fresh pasta station along with four or five other main dish options including veal and a savoury strudel.

Deserts were a delight, and ranged from muffins and cakes to yummy fruit pastries – here the French influence was definitely noted. Also a fresh ‘palacsinta’ station provided another choice for sweeter-toothed pancake lovers, and a good selection of cheese was available to complete the luxury brunch experience..

Throughout the meal we were served with our choice of soft drinks for the girls, and beers, wine and coffee for the adults, which is all included in the 8500 HUF price.

Having our two small children with us, the addition of a staffed craft corner was a welcome addition to help the afternoon pass by peacefully!

Le Meridien is a first-class choice even though it may not have the stunning Castle District back drop, or outside dining options like some of their competitors, they do provide an intimate brunch experience with ‘fantastique’ food and drinks to suit every palette, and age group.

Overall I'm glad we tried another of the brunch options in Budapest, and will look forward to returning to Le Meridien again.
