Xpat Opinion: A Modified Traditional Hungarian Breakfast
Hungary has lots of surprises waiting for you. Some of them you will discover within a few days, while others will take more time for you to discover. I remember one of those surprises some years back when I was served a traditional Hungarian breakfast.

Where I come from sausage/hot dog is something you eat for lunch, for dinner or between lunch and dinner. In Hungary the traditional hot dog tradition is very week, but they still eat a lot of virsli, form of sausage, and guess when they do so… for breakfast. This will normally look something like on the picture above.

The first time I was served sausage for breakfast I was in shock. How was it possible to start a day with that? After some years I have gotten used to the though, and I do enjoy it. However, from time to time I make some changes to the Hungarian breakfast, and then it looks like this… A good way to start the day, huh?

You will probably not my version of the Hungarian breakfast served in restaurants in Budapest serving breakfast, but if you want to try the Hungarian version with bread and mustard, read our article about breakfast in Budapest.
