Expat Love & Apartment-Theatre At PLACCC Festival In Budapest
Malu is Dutch. David is Italian. They are in love. They’re going to live in a city they know nothing about. How can they be happy in Budapest? Where and how will they live? Especially with the Hungarians. These questions will be answered between 24 and 27 September, when the young couple opens their house for four days to anyone, anytime. The exciting apartment-theatre performance can be seen at PLACCC Festival.

ONE IN ONE: BUDAPEST is a performance based on an idea by Ördög Tamás és Kiss-Végh Emőke, two young Hungarian actors and theatremakers, both known for their unusual performances staged in apartments. Malu Peeters, a Dutch sound designer and David Power, an Italian actor are a couple and also the protagonists of the play.

They were invited to spend some time in Budapest and create a play from their experiences in a foreign country and city. They should arrange their life from scratch, adapt to new situations, integrate into a foreign community, find new jobs and make new friends.

As Malu and David are looking for their own national identities, they make comparisons and search for the components of Hungarian national identity. Moments and experiences of their everyday lives have been documented on the internet through photographs, videos and blog entries.

At the end, their experiences will be arranged in a 86-hour long play, which will be performed in their rented apartment in Budapest at PLACCC, the festival of site specific art and art in public space.

„Our house is your house! Our flat will be open non-stop from 8am on the 24th until 10pm on the 27th of September. Feel free to stop by at any time and stay as long as you want.

Come in, look around, make yourself at home. Malu and David”
