Hungarian “Spy Stork” Arrested And Eaten In Egypt
Hungarian stork Ménes accused of being a spy was first arrested then was killed and eaten shortly after its release in Egypt last week. The man who found and gave Ménes to the police thought the bird was an undercover agent because it carried an electronic device.

After an in-depth examination, officials discovered the device was neither a bomb nor a spying system, but a simple wildlife tracker installed by Hungarian researchers to follow the route of the migrating bird.

According to sources, the innocently detained bird was released into a conservation area in Southern Egypt, but it flew across an island in the Nile and was allegedly killed then eaten by villagers.

“Although this case is unfortunate, the biggest threats to these migrating birds remain the dangerous and widespread power grids.”- said a spokesman of MME-Birdlife Hungary.
