Invitation: Lights Of The Universe, Circus Budapest, 5 October
In the heroic age of the circus, in the 19th century, the appropriate lighting of the arena meant a significant problem. In the iron structure, corrugated tin building of the Capital Circus of Budapest opened more than 120 years ago, director Ede Wulf of Dutch birth had coal gas lighting installed, the deficiencies of which were criticized by the contemporary press who were otherwise amazed by the show. The conditions in the tents of the small travelling circuses were even worse; the audience had to watch the show by the glimmering light of carbide and oil lamps.

The modern circuses of the world naturally work with breathtaking light techniques today. In the Capital Circus of Budapest our audience can take a delight in the splendid lights of the computer-controlled intelligent robot lamp system consisting of several hundreds of spotlights. However, the title of our new show was not inspired by this wonderful flood of light.

The spectators buying tickets for our show called The Lights of the Universe can admire such artistes whose fascinating productions sometimes contradict even the earth’s laws. Today the legendary heroic age of the circus is recalled by levitation, a mysterious illusionist of the floating objects, a female artiste walking on the “ceiling” of the circus dome and other fantastic circus artists rather than the lighting techniques.

And the main attraction of the programme is a real world sensation: the audience of the Monte-Carlo Circus Festival used to the greatest stars were giving a standing ovation to the cosmic miracles of the Casselly Family, who turn somersaults on the back of elephants. We are proud that the unearthly lights of the Universe are glittering in the Capital Circus of Budapest.
