Top Court Rejects Complaint On Foetus Protection Law
The top court has rejected a complaint by four civilians, including former radical nationalist Jobbik lawmaker Balázs Lenhardt, challenging Hungary’s foetus protection law.

Lenhardt, who is now an independent deputy, told the press on Monday that the Constitutional Court ruled back in 1998 that Hungary’s regulations on foetus protection were legally inappropriate but the law has not been properly amended ever since. In line with an international agreement signed in 1979 and joined by Hungary, men and women should have equal rights in connection with abortions, Lenhardt said.

Yet, in line with Hungarian regulations, once a woman starts the official procedure for an abortion, neither the father nor any organisation has an influence on its progress, he added.

The complaint has been submitted to the top court by four individuals, including an affected father. The court has turned it down, arguing that it could only be submitted by an aggrieved party and only within 180 days after the legislation has been passed.

Lenhardt said they had also contacted the ombudsman with the complaints and were waiting for his response.
