Hungarians “More Satisfied” Than Expected, Says Stats Office
Hungarians are generally more satisfied than the trends of past years might suggest, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) said, commenting on its survey of the sentiment of the general public, which showed Hungarians scoring 6.15 on a scale of 1-10.

Zsolt Németh, the office’s deputy chairman, said that whereas previous surveys had indicated that Hungarian society was the most downbeat and pessimistic in the European Union on the life-satisfaction scale, the most recent findings presented a less dark picture.

At the same time, given the complexity and size of the sample – almost 18,000 responses were examined – the current findings could not be compared with precision to previous ones, he cautioned. The same type of survey was carried out in every EU country in the second half of 2013.

Not all the results are in, so an international comparison will be ready at a later date, he noted.

The 16-24 age group is the most satisfied. This gradually tapers in the 45-54 age group and drastically falls among the elderly, according to the KSH survey.

Taking gender into account, females are more satisfied in the 16-64 age group but men are more upbeat after the age of 65, it added.
