This EU co-funded project is being rolled-out right now, with a value of over one billion Hungarian Forints. This MOL sponsored initiative by BKK allows registered customers to use over one thousand bicycles located around Budapest. GPS-based tracking and security camera systems will be installed to protect bicycles and the docking stations.

By supporting the Bubi project, MOL intends to make an impact on people’s awareness, to foster sustainability, and to create a new societal model based on positive thinking – emphasised Zsolt Hernádi, the MOL CEO. The bicycles themselves are manufactured in Hungary by the Csepel bicycle manufactory company.

The system will allow users to get automated access to Bubi-bikes in all seasons around the clock, and to return the bikes to any station. BKK finalised the locations of the 75 docking stations by taking on board input of the Hungarian Cyclists’ Club. The axes of the docking station network will be between Margitsziget and Budafoki út as well as between Déli pályaudvar and Keleti pályaudvar railway stations with a 300-500-metre average distance between docking stations in the city centre.
