KDB Cancels Budapest Trolley Tender
At the request of Skoda, the procurement arbitration court KDB has cancelled the trolley bus tender announced by the city of Budapest. The tender announcement for the purchase of 24 trolley buses specified emergency batteries only without extra diesel engines as an option. Competition for the tender was thus impacted negatively, the KDB found.

The court ruling is a mistake, according to the tender issuer, Budapest transport authority BKK.

Due to the relevant EU subsidy deadline expiring soon, some Ft 3.4 billion in subsidy may be lost, news site Index pointed out.

The EU could cover 99% of the cost of the 24 trolley buses, commented Socialist Budapest caucus leader Csaba Horváth, who has called on Budapest mayor István Tarlós to dismiss BKK head Dávid Vitézy.

Tarlós has launched an internal investigation.

In order not to lose the EU subsidy, BKK has asked KDB to revise its ruling. If it does not, BKK will turn to the court for revision, Vitézy said.
