Budapest Mayor Tarlós Opens Christian Theatre Festival
Budapest mayor István Tarlós on Friday opened the first Christian Theatre Festival at the Új Színház, run by his controversial appointee György Dörner.

There is a need for high standard performances with Christian themes, Tarlós said in a speech, as drama in the early 20th century had treated works conceived in Christian ideology as equals, but they were denigrated under Communist rule, and Christian ideology was not made part of everyday practice even after the 1990 change of regime.

That is why the initiative of Új Színház is particularly important, he said, as he expressed hope that the festival will start a tradition.
