Green Groups Welcome Decision Not To Build On Normafa Hill
Green groups have welcomed a decision by Zoltán Pokorni, the Fidesz mayor of Budapest’s leafy 12th district in Buda, not to go ahead with a project to build a skiing centre on Normafa hill, a popular place for hikers. The Normafa Nature Coalition, which includes Greenpeace Hungary and WWF Hungary, noted in a statement that Pokorni had ruled out the project, which included a piste and various ancillary buildings, in a statement in Népszava daily on Thursday.

Facilities such as locker rooms, shower and a buffet will be placed in existing buildings, he said. The green groups had protested against the construction with concerns that the development would have harmed the local natural habitat.
