Hungarian Court Says Websites Responsible For All Comments
Websites are responsible for the content of comments posted on them, regardless of whether the comments are withdrawn in response to objections, the Constitutional Court ruled on Tuesday.

The ruling comes in a suit brought by real estate company Experiment, which was harshly criticised in a comment on the website of the Hungarian Content Providers Association.

Upholding a decision by the Kúria, the Constitutional Court said content providers will remain legally responsible even if they remove offending comments.

Civil Liberties Union (TASZ) leader Dániel Máté Szabó warned that such a strict responsibility will have a chilling effect and will curb freedom of speech, as content providers will not make comments possible.
