Hungary's PM Orban And Hernádi Feature In Secret Recordings
The latest leaks from secretly recorded conversations among senior Polish officials indicate that the lawsuit filed against MOL chairman and CEO Zsolt Hernádi last December may have been staged.

In the January conversation between Jacek Krawiec, president of Polish energy company PKN Orlen, and Treasury Minister Wlodzimierz Karpinski in a Warsaw restaurant, Krawiec said that when he asked Hernádi during a visit to Budapest how many years in prison he expected to serve regarding the INA case, Hernádi smiled and said his lawyers had noticed that if he were acquitted of the charges anywhere in the EU, then he could again travel freely.

When Krawiec suggested that the court proceeding might take two or three years, Hernádi replied that he expected a verdict in April. The Budapest Capital Court acquitted Hernádi of the charges on May 26.

After deputy treasury minister Zdzislaw Gawlik joined Krawiec and Karpinski, the conversation shifted to relations between Orbán and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Krawiec used obscene expressions to say that Orbán pleases Putin in every way, as he was having the Russians build two more nuclear reactor units, was taking a €10 billion loan from the Russians and “naturally” will help build the South Stream gas pipeline, despite the EU’s disagreeing with that.

The role of Hungarian government officials was described as “pure serfdom”.
