Heritage Public Transport Services In Budapest In August 2014
n weekends of the last summer month, special heritage transport services are offered this year again. You can travel by regular heritage tramlines in Budapest and by suburban railway lines to Gödöllő. A unique heritage tram night-time photo tour is also offered in Budapest.

Heritage tram night-time photo tour

Take a unique night journey from 16 August (Saturday) by the legendary Ganz UV tramline along the most beautiful sights of the Hungarian capital to admire the lights of the Buda Castle, the Fisherman’s Bastion and the Chain Bridge. The circle ride also takes you to the routes of the narrow street tramlines, outskirt of Budapest.

You can board only at Hungária kocsiszín terminus since the heritage tram will stop only at specific photo spots and regular stops will not be served. Meeting, registration and boarding are from 22:45 at Hungária kocsiszín on 16 August (Saturday). Expected departure of the tram marked with an “F” is at 23.10. The program is expected to finish at Hungária kocsiszín at 4.40 AM on Sunday.

This night photo tour offers only limited places, thus preregistration is required. Please find the online form on the bottom of this page. Special, daily heritage service fare applies.

Sunday heritage tram service along the Danube river embankment

Turn back time by riding the hundred-year-old tramcars along the most beautiful sights of the Hungarian capital and feel the original atmosphere of the late 19th-century Budapest. There is an outstanding view along the route that you can admire, such as the Buda Castle, the Fisherman’s Bastion and Gellért Hill.

Hundred-year-old tramcars marked with a “J” are in operation on 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31 August (Sunday) on tram line 2 which is represented among National Geographic magazine’s Top 10 tram rides.

Vintage trams depart every hour from Jászai Mari tér terminus between 16:56 and 21:56 and every hour from Közvágóhíd between 16:25 and 21:25.

Heritage suburban railway to Gödöllő on 20 August

Visit Sissi’s castle (Empress Elisabeth of Austria) on Saint Stephen’s Day (20 August) in Gödöllő, which is a colorful little town situated East of Budapest. BKV and BKK jointly operate a 62-year-old MVIII-type electric motor-train marked with a “G” on 20 August (Wednesday) between Örs vezér tere M and Gödöllő.

The heritage suburban railway departs from Örs vezér tere M at 9.16, 11.46 and 14.16 and goes back from Gödöllő at 10.37, 13.07 and 15.37.

Fare information

Please note that that special heritage service fares apply, passes and Budapest Cards are not valid. One-way adult fare is 500 HUF, children, ages 6-14: 300 HUF, under age 6: free.

When travelling outside the administrative boundaries of Budapest, please purchase a heritage transport extension ticket. The fare of the heritage transport extension ticket equals that of the heritage transport ticket within Budapest.

Daily heritage tickets are also available for adults 2000 HUF, children, ages 6-14: 1200 HUF. Tickets are available on the spot but you can also purchase them at out ticket offices in Batthyány tér M, Bosnyák tér, Deák tér M, Hűvösvölgy, Katona József utca, Akácfa utca, Nyugati tér M, Széll Kálmán tér M.
