Hungary's PM Orbán Nominates Navracsics To European Commission
Foreign Minister Tibor Navracsics will be Hungary’s nominee to the European Commission, Navracsics himself announced on Twitter. Navracsics said in a brief message that he considers the nomination a difficult job and a great honour.

At almost the same time, PMO press chief Bertalan Havasi released an official letter in which Prime Minister Viktor Orbán announced to new EC President Jean-Claude Juncker that Navracsics is the Hungarian nominee.

Orbán wrote that Navracsics is qualified for the post due to his professionalism as foreign minister and his commitment to Europe.

Navracsics has long been tipped as the favourite for the post, but it is an open question as to what portfolio he will get in the Commission.

Hungary is thinking of the EU expansion portfolio, and Navracsics has said he would welcome that appointment, due to his origin and his career.

State secretary Péter Szijjártó is expected to succeed Navracsics as foreign minister.
