Jewish Foundation Head Calls Zoltai Recall From Post “Unprecedented”
György Szabó, president of Jewish heritage foundation Mazsök, has welcomed the appointment of Gusztáv Zoltai as a government advisor. Zoltai was asked by the Budapest Dohány Street Jewish community to step down as president when he accepted the post.

Zoltai, who headed the Federation of Hungarian Jewish Communities (Mazsihisz) until his appointment, was asked to advise cabinet chief János Lázár from September on matters of dispute with the Jewish community.

Szabó said it would have been “irresponsible “ to reject the government’s call when it seeks to have advice from someone with extensive experience in Hungarian Jewish matters. He praised Zoltai for his “exceptional” knowledge of Hungary’s Jewish community.
