Hungarian Tax Office Rejects US Accusations
Leaders of the Tax and Customs Office (NAV) addressed allegations that they are implicated in corrupt activity for the first time on Wednesday. In a formal statement, the NAV said it is entirely unacceptable that some people take remarks lacking any foundation as fact and use them to put NAV in an impossible position and undermine tax morale.

Tax officials – most notably NAV president Ildikó Vida – have been among the prime suspects since the US announced that it would not grant visas to six unnamed Hungarian officials, due to their suspected involvement in corrupt practices.

Wednesday’s statement did not explicitly refute the allegation, as it made no mention of whether NAV officials can enter the US.
