Fidesz Unsure About Land Tax In Hungary
The Agriculture Ministry is recommending that the tax bill approved last week be modified to rule out the possibility of a tax on arable land, state secretary of the ministry István Nagy said on Friday. The tax bill authorises local government to impose taxes.

However, Nagy warned that a tax on potentially two million land owners would have negative consequences, as in several areas it is only the land that provides income for people living there.

Speaker László Kövér took a different view on Saturday, saying even some farmers support the idea of a land tax.
