Hungary's PM Orbán Links US Embassy To Opposition
The US embassy document detailing the occasions on which diplomats raised concerns about corruption was dismissed by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán on Friday as a “scrap of paper” that the opposition parties might have prepared.

“If it was not in English, I would think it was written by an opposition party”, he said during his regular fortnightly interview on Kossuth Rádió.

Declaring that it is hard to take seriously the criticisms regarding the US ban on certain Hungarian officials, he said any Hungarian ambassador who handed over a “scrap of paper” without signature or stamp to a foreign cabinet would be ordered home the next day.

If Tax Office leader Ildikó Vida submitted her resignation, he would think carefully about whether to accept it, Orbán said, adding that he would not like to set a precedent in which another state accuses a civil servant without evidence and achieves her dismissal. This raises the question of Hungarian sovereignty, he remarked.
