MTG To Sell Viasat Hungary
Sweden’s Modern Times Group (MTG) is in advanced talks on selling its Hungarian subsidiary Viasat Hungary, media news site mmonline.hu has learned from several independent sources.

Reports say the most likely purchaser is Viacom, owner of the Comedy Central, Nickleodeon, MTV, Paramount and Viva channels in Hungary.

MTG and Viacom signed a co-operation agreement early this year, the website recalls.

According to other sources, Sony Pictures, owner of the AXN channels in Hungary, may also be the buyer.

MTG’s market share is only 7.1% in Hungary, whereas elsewhere it has dominant positions, with market shares of 58.7% in Latvia, 43.9% in Lithuania, 35.6% in the Czech Republic and 32.4% in Bulgaria.

The company was reportedly interested in buying TV2 one year ago. Rumours at the time suggested that if the acquisition failed then MTG would leave Hungary, because of its small market share.
