National Campaign Launched In Hungary To Promote Tap Water Consumption
Tap water consumption is not only healthy but it also reflects environmentally aware behaviour, Deputy State Secretary for Consumer Protection László Koszorús said upon launching the campaign From the Tap! (Csapra Fel!) in Budapest on 2 December, 2014. The national awareness raising action launched by the five major regional water public utility service providers aims to encourage the Hungarian population’s tap water consumption.

In the process of becoming conscious consumers it is important to pay growing attention to the origin, source and composition of the product. We look for good quality and healthy Hungarian products in the shops, too, but one of the most important ones comes to our homes. Thanks to Hungary’s unique endowments we are in the lucky position to get fresh and healthy water by opening the tap at home, László Koszorús pointed out.

Tap water is the product that most of us consume at yet we take it so granted that we fail to appreciate its real value. This is one reason why the Ministry of National Development supports the initiative of the five water public utility service providers, the Deputy State Secretary emphasised.

László Koszorús noted that organised action and many people’s cooperation were required so that tap water could reach every person’s home: “Numberless colleagues at public utility companies make efforts day by way in order to provide high-standard and consumer friendly services with satisfied consumers in the focus.”

The attitude formation campaign is organised by Transdanubian Regional Waterworks Corporation (DRV Zrt.), Danube Regional Waterworks (DMRV Zrt.), North Transdanubian Water Utility Ltd. (ÉDV Zrt.), North Hungarian Regional Waterworks Ltd. (ÉRV. Zrt.) and Tisza Regional Waterworks (TRV Zrt.).

The From the Tap campaign tries reaching the population in several ways. At the 1st National Tap Water Tasting Competition those interested can taste 15 kinds of water from water bases selected by the five state-owned regional water public utility service providers. The tastiest of these will be selected by voting. The label of the bottle of the winning water will be designed by students within the framework of a national competition.
