Israel’s Ambassador For Hungary Urges Unity Against Anti -Semitism
Those who respect basic moral values and human freedoms must join together to defeat anti-Semitism, Ilan Mor, Israel’s ambassador to Hungary, said in a written message, marking international Holocaust remembrance day.

The ambassador recalled that a decade ago the United Nations General Assembly declared January 27 an international day of commemoration of the victims of Nazism.

The significance of this date is that on this day in 1945 the detainees of the largest death camp at Auschwitz-Birkenau were liberated, he noted, adding that the UN declaration rejects Holocaust denial and condemns discrimination and violence on religious or ethnic grounds.

Mor said that on this day people should think about what would happen were racism and hate to go unchecked.

“We see what the lessons of the past play in our lives today,” he added.
